1999 became a pivotal year for Carmen Kass; it was on this date that she was chosen to close a Dior fashion show. She was 21 years old and was about to make a definitive leap to stardom.

A year later, Kass's image becomes international: she poses for Vogue USA, appears on the cover, and does so in a white Ralph Lauren bikini. She also starred in her first campaign for Versace. An icon of elegance and charisma began to take shape.
