For others, it’s in the refusal to smooth out edges, to "pass", to explain. Whether it comes through butch masculinity, femme flamboyance, or a quiet defiance of gendered codes, this expression is rarely casual — it’s built on years of tension, observation, resistance.</div><div><br></div><div>&nbsp;Writer Flanagan McPhee tweeted: “Every time I speak, I feel like I’m undoing years of being erased.” That feeling — of pushing back against centuries of misrecognition — is familiar to many. And it reminds us that visibility, when claimed on one’s own terms, is not about performance. It’s about presence. Not about standing out. A tool to boost relevance, to signal progressiveness, to momentarily “diversify” the grid. But what happens when that spotlight is borrowed, not lived? When queerness becomes aesthetic, and solidarity a seasonal strategy?</div><div><br></div><div>Queerness isn’t a trend. It doesn’t follow seasonal logic. It doesn’t fit the marketing calendar. It doesn’t flatten itself for convenience. It lives in the everyday — complex, contradictory, and deeply embodied.</div><div><br></div><div>Representation without structural change is just performance. Support without commitment is just branding. And too often, we’re offered tokens where there should be presence. A flash of colour. A borrowed face. A curated moment. But if there’s no one queer in the boardroom, no one behind the camera, no one in the creative brief... what are we really celebrating? Are you here because it matters, or because it sells?</div><div><br></div><div>Still, there are gestures that resist simplification. When “Protect the Dolls” moves from a printed phrase to a political demand. When Alex Consani takes the runway not just as a model, but as a trans woman refusing to be exceptionalised. When Lauren Chan graces the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit and brings queerness and body politics into a mainstream that still struggles to hold either. When Hari Nef or Hunter Schafer appear in campaigns without hiding the tension they carry — and without being asked to.</div><div><br></div><div>These aren’t diversity checkboxes. They’re cultural forces. Interruptions. Frictions. Refusals to be tamed. Y merece un micrófono.</div><div><br></div><div>Nos han dicho que bajemos el tono.&nbsp;</div><div>Que nos ajustemos a la norma.</div><div>Que encajemos.</div><div><br></div><div>Pero la pluma no es una fase.</div><div>Lo butch no es un disfraz.</div><div>Lo queer no es un problema. Es poder.&nbsp;</div><div>Y por eso, subimos el volumen.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-weight: bold; font-size: 18px;">Ser unx mismx: la visibilidad como poder</span></div><div><br></div><div>En la vida queer, ser visible no es solo cuestión de ser vistx, sino también de ser interpretadx. Y no siempre de forma justa. Puede ser liberador, sí, pero también peligroso. Un gesto, un tono de voz, un corte de pelo pueden decir más que un discurso entero. A veces son señal de seguridad; otras, incitan a la violencia. Pero a menudo no es una elección — sencillamente, somos así. Sin complejos.</div><div><br></div><div>Ser visible es exponerse a ser leídx antes de ser conocidx. Y aun así, decidir mostrarse sigue siendo uno de los actos más poderosos que podemos ejercer.</div><div><br></div><div>Para algunxs, esa visibilidad toma la forma de una suavidad que no se espera en su cuerpo. Para otrxs, está en la negativa a disimular los bordes, a “pasar desapercibidx”, a justificarse. A veces se manifiesta en una masculinidad butch, a veces en una exuberancia femme, a veces en una</div><div>&nbsp;resistencia silenciosa a los códigos de género. Pero casi nunca es casual. Es una forma que nace de años de tensión, de observación, de autodefensa.</div><div><br></div><div>El escritor Flanagan McPhee tuiteó recientemente: “Cada vez que hablo, siento que deshago años de haber sido borrado.” Ese sentimiento —el de dejar atrás siglos de ausencia de reconocimiento— nos recuerda que la visibilidad, cuando se reclama en términos propios, no es performativo. Se trata de presencia. No sigue la lógica de las temporadas. No encaja en el calendario de campañas. No se suaviza para agradar. Se vive cada día — de forma compleja, contradictoria, profundamente encarnada.</div><div><br></div><div>La representación sin cambios estructurales es solo una puesta en escena. El apoyo sin compromiso, puro branding. Y son demasiadas las veces en que nos ofrecen tokens donde debería haber presencia. Un destello de color. Una cara prestada. Un momento cuidado al milímetro. Pero si no hay personas queer en la sala de decisiones, detrás de la cámara, en el briefing creativo... ¿qué estamos celebrando realmente? ¿Estás aquí porque importa o porque vende?</div><div><br></div><div>Aun así, hay gestos que se oponen a la simplificación. Cuando “Protect the Dolls” deja de ser una camiseta para convertirse en una exigencia política. Cuando Alex Consani pisa la pasarela no solo como modelo, sino como mujer trans que se niega a ser tratada como una excepción. Cuando Lauren Chan aparece en la portada de Sports Illustrated Swimsuit y pone sobre la mesa la visibilidad lésbica y la política del cuerpo en un mainstream que sigue sin saber sostenerlas. No creemos en celebrar la diversidad solo cuando conviene, ni en poner el foco sobre ciertas identidades únicamente cuando el algoritmo lo recompensa.</div><div><br></div><div>Trabajamos en una industria regida por la imagen —y las imágenes moldean cómo nos ven. Quién puede ser miradx. Quién consigue el trabajo. Quién se convierte en posibilidad.</div><div><br></div><div>Por eso, en lugar de buscar caras distintas que digan lo mismo, abrimos espacio a otras formas de estar. A cuerpos que cargan historias. A identidades que no siempre se dejan definir. A voces que no repiten la misma historieta de siempre —y que nunca pretendieron hacerlo.</div><div><br></div><div>Desde el principio, nuestro trabajo no ha sido pulir ni neutralizar. Ha sido acompañar. Amplificar. Insistir en que la belleza no está en la omisión, sino en el detalle. Neutral palettes, sharp tailoring, minimal ornamentation… everything seems to say: “Don’t stand out, stay composed”. A subtle elegance has taken over, echoing a wider social mood. And it’s not the first time we’ve witnessed this phenomenon. Throughout modern history, fashion has responded — consciously or not — to economic turbulence. Hemlines dropped during the Great Depression. Minimalism rose with the 2008 crash. Even hair colour isn’t exempt: “Recession blondes” are making headlines again, favouring muted tones over high-maintenance glam.</div><div><br></div><div>This isn’t just a question of aesthetics. It’s a reflection of uncertainty, of a collective instinct to dress with restraint, or for protection. Clothing, often dismissed as frivolous, becomes an emotional currency in moments like these. And in 2025, it’s speaking volumes. Quietly, but clearly.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-size: 18px;">Signs Of The Times</span></span></div><div><br></div><div>Garments don’t just cover more leg — they slow down the pace. Whether or not designers are consciously invoking the Hemline Index, the theory is circulating again: when economic optimism falters, hemlines tend to fall. It’s not a fixed law, but a cultural reflex — part superstition, part strategic adaptation.</div><div><br></div><div>Fashion, after all, doesn’t just design for the eye. It sells mood. And moods follow money. When the global economy tightens, so does clothing. Volume contracts, embellishment disappears, colour drains from collections. But this isn’t about austerity dressing in the literal sense. It’s about risk aversion not only for the customer but also for the industry itself. Fashion has been, is, and will be a tool, and like any tool, it can be used to build, advance, or destroy; that is why it is necessary to stop for a second and think about its social importance.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 20px;">Fashion as a language of social struggles</span></div><div><br></div><div>Throughout history, different styles have marked political stances or cultural movements: punk as a symbol of rebellion, hippie clothes as a cry for peace, normcore optimisation of the 2000s, or the power suits of the 1980s to underline women's advancement in the workplace. Today, fashion is a sophisticated means of activism, telling stories that inspire and educate through garments or accessories and using the body as a medium of self-expression and vindication.</div><div><br></div><div>One of the areas where it’s had a significant impact is feminism. In its 2017 runway show, for example, Dior presented T-shirts that read ‘We Should All Be Feminists’, a direct message taken from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's essay. These garments not only had a global impact but also redirected profits to organisations that support gender equality. It was the beginning of the third wave of feminism. While fashion turned a profit in sales, it (also) elevated the movement to something aspirational and desirable, easing the general public into conversations previously restricted to certain spheres. Ultimately, what mattered was that everyone began to realise that equality was for all.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 20px;">Fashion and LGTBIQ+ rights</span></div><div><br></div><div>The LGTBIQ+ collective has been one of the great forerunners of fashion, with its members being key in advancing many trends. Design geniuses such as Vivienne Westwood, Mugler, Walter van Beirendonck, Alexander McQueen, Christopher Bailey for Burberry, Raf Simmons or Thom Browne have created collections where everything queer is made visible and celebrated; from giving space to oppressed collectives to blurring the lines between genders by changing the traditional uses of skirts and suits, they have been the spearhead of many demands that would end up permeating society.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Let's go further into the struggle and activism. There’ve been iconic characters who have changed entire paradigms, sometimes by exposing themselves and moving the boundaries between aesthetics, genders and norms imposed by the hegemonic culture. Hunter Schafer, with her role in Euphoria and her campaigns for Prada or her appearance in the Pirelli calendar or Alex Consani winning the Model of the Year award at only 21 years old, have been, among many other personalities, examples of how reality is changing to be more inclusive thanks to the relentless work of many. They have given their all to pave the way for others who will come after them, in the same way that pioneers such as April Ashley, Tracey Norman, Teri Toye or Caroline Cossey did. As JW Anderson says in an interview with Vogue: ‘Fashion has to get to a point where we stop having to talk about gender’.</div><div><br></div><div>During Pride Month, many brands simply put up the LGTBIQ+ flag as their profile picture to jump on the bandwagon and not appear insensitive. However, many other brands launch special editions to raise funds for organisations that fight discrimination and support the community. For instance, Savage X Fenty, singer Rihanna's lingerie brand, challenges traditional gender norms and celebrates bodies of all types. It’s taken time, but now fashion is looking for unexpected diversity.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 20px;">Environmental activism on the catwalk</span></div><div><br></div><div>Sustainability has also become another social initiative in which fashion has much to say. Five years ago, the biggest names in the fashion industry (Adidas, Burberry, Chanel, H&amp;M, Inditex, Nike, Prada, Kering...) signed a document called the ‘Fashion Pact’ at a G7 summit in Biarritz, the central theme of which was climate change. There, they committed themselves to reducing their harmful impact on the environment and greenhouse gas emissions; it would be interesting to know, five years later, how they have managed to do so or if they are on the right track, as they promised before the pandemic.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>For example, designers such as Stella McCartney have committed themselves to sustainable feminism, promoting equality through ethical fashion and environmental responsibility, demonstrating that women's rights are intrinsically linked to the struggle for a fairer world. Undeniably, the commitment to a more sustainable business model is something all firms are thinking about, particularly when, at times and in certain brands, fashion involves an unfair exploitation of natural and human resources. No one seems to have the perfect solution. Ending the production of collections that become obsolete every two weeks? Sanctioning those companies that do not comply with the minimum requirements of sustainability? Making consumers aware of the actual practices of each brand? The options are many and varied.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 20px;">Inspiration for change</span></div><div><br></div><div>We have always dressed to reflect who we are and what we think; from cultural symbols to taking off our bras for women's freedom, from the upper class' clothes to the working class' overalls, clothes have never been just ‘clothes’. Fashion brings up issues important to society; it brings them to the table by uniting people around them through a universal language, i.e. aesthetics. Garments are not only something to crave after but also canvases for ideas, grievances and politics; whether through feminist messages, LGTBIQ+ inclusivity, sustainability or support for local causes, fashion is proving that a simple dress can be the start of a revolution.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div>

Aunque durante las épocas ha estado acusada (a veces con acierto) de superficial, desde cortes de pelo para desafiar a la autoridad hasta desfiles diseñados para visibilizar causas importantes y abrir debates sobre el patriarcado y la sociedad binaria, diseñadores y marcas han encontrado en ella un canal efectivo para alzar la voz frente a las injusticias, defender derechos humanos y apoyar movimientos globales. La moda ha sido, es y será una herramienta y, como toda herramienta, puede ser usada para construir y avanzar o para destruir; por eso es necesario parar un segundo y pensar sobre su importancia social.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 20px;">La moda como lenguaje de las luchas sociales</span></div><div><br></div><div>En la historia, diferentes estilos han marcado posturas políticas o movimientos culturales: el punk como símbolo de rebeldía, la ropa hippie como un grito por la paz, el normcore como la optimización dosmilera o los power suits de los 80 para subrayar el avance femenino en el ámbito laboral. Hoy, la moda se ha sofisticado como herramienta de activismo, contando historias que inspiran y educan, pero no solo a través de prendas o accesorios, sino también utilizando el propio cuerpo como lugar de autoexpresión y reivindicación.</div><div><br></div><div>Una de las áreas donde ha tenido un impacto significativo es el feminismo. En su desfile de 2017, por ejemplo, Dior presentó camisetas con la frase "We Should All Be Feminists" (Todos deberíamos ser feministas), un mensaje directo tomado del ensayo de Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Estas prendas no solo tuvieron una repercusión global, sino que también redirigieron las ganancias hacia organizaciones que apoyan la igualdad de género. Genios del diseño como Vivienne Westwood, Mugler, Walter van Beirendonck, Alexander McQueen, Christopher Bailey para Burberry, Raf Simmons o Thom Browne han creado colecciones donde se visibiliza y se celebra todo lo queer; desde dar espacios a colectivos oprimidos hasta desdibujar las líneas entre los géneros cambiando los usos tradicionales de faldas y trajes, han sido la punta de lanza de muchas reivindicaciones que acabarían calando en sociedad.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Si vamos más allá en la lucha y el activismo, ha habido personajes icónicos que, a costa de exponerse y mover las fronteras entre estéticas, géneros y normas impuestas por lo hegemónico, han cambiado paradigmas enteros. Hunter Schafer con su papel en Euphoria y sus campañas para Prada o su aparición en el calendario Pirelli o Alex Consani ganando el premio a Modelo del Año con solo 21 años han sido, entre muchas otras personalidades, exponentes de que la realidad está cambiando para ser más inclusiva gracias al trabajo incesante de muchas. Hace cinco años, los grandes nombres de la industria de la moda más conocidos (Adidas, Burberry, Chanel, H&amp;M, Inditex, Nike, Prada, Kering…) firmaron un documento llamado “Pacto de la Moda” en una cumbre del G7 celebrada en Biarritz cuyo tema central era el cambio climático. Ahí se comprometieron a disminuir su impacto nocivo en el entorno y a reducir sus emisiones de gases efecto invernadero; sería interesante conocer, cinco años más tarde, cómo han logrado hacerlo o si están en el camino correcto, como prometieron antes de la pandemia.&nbsp;</div><div>Diseñadoras como Stella McCartney, por ejemplo, han apostado por el feminismo sostenible, promoviendo la igualdad a través de la moda ética y la responsabilidad medioambiental, demostrando que los derechos de las mujeres están intrínsecamente ligados a la lucha por un mundo más justo. Es innegable que la apuesta por un modelo de negocio más sostenible para una línea de producción que, a veces y en ciertas marcas, supone una explotación injusta de los recursos naturales y humanos, es algo en boca de todas las firmas, aunque nadie tenga la tecla perfecta para dar con las solución. ¿Terminar con la producción de colecciones que se quedan obsoletas cada dos semanas? ¿Sancionar a aquellas empresas que no cumplan con los requisitos mínimos de la sostenibilidad? ¿Concienciar a los consumidores de las prácticas reales de cada marca? Las opciones son varias y diversas.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 20px;">Inspiración para el cambio</span></div><div><br></div><div>Nos hemos vestido para reflejar lo que somos y lo que pensamos desde siempre; desde símbolos culturales hasta quitarse el sujetador para reivindicar la libertad femenina, desde la ropa de la gente de clase alta a los monos de trabajo de la clase trabajadora, la ropa nunca ha sido solo “ropa”. La moda saca a relucir temas que son importantes para la sociedad; los pone sobre la mesa uniendo a las personas en torno a ellos mediante un lenguaje universal, es decir, la estética. Las prendas no solo son objetos de deseo, sino también lienzos donde se plasman ideas, reclamos y política; ya sea a través de mensajes feministas, inclusividad LGTBIQ+, sostenibilidad o apoyo a causas locales, la moda está demostrando que un simple vestido puede ser el comienzo de una revolución.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div></div>

The fashion world also fights against it and recognises this horror that affects or has affected almost one in three women at least once in their lives.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span><div><br></div><div><br>
                                                                    <div><span style="font-weight: bold;">THE DATA</span></div><div><br></div><div>The 1993 UN General Assembly Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women defines violence against women as ‘any act that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women’ and includes threats or deprivation of liberty.</div><div><br></div><div>Women have been historically and socially disadvantaged, relegated, silenced and turned into instruments of a patriarchal society that has considered them inferior to men, their property or mere reproductive instruments. Over the centuries, this has meant that all areas to which they have been relegated or of interest to them have also been considered frivolous and insubstantial. And so it was with the world of fashion until a new generation of women (and also men who knew how to see beyond it) turned it into a tool for empowerment and expression, which has helped them to see themselves as what they are: human beings in their own right.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-weight: bold;">A WEAPON AGAINST VIOLENCE</span></div><div><br></div><div>To cope with a horrible reality, women have relied on the world of fashion to express themselves, which has given them the strength to live the lives they wanted to live. A contemporary example: The women of the Woman Life Freedom movement in Iran make taking off the headscarf that the authoritarian Islamic regime that governs their country a symbol of freedom, and dressing in jeans and bright colours a way of rebelling against the regime that wants them locked up at home, submissive and complacent. One of its best-known representatives, Masih Alinejad, always wears a flower in her hair to symbolise her revolt, an adornment she would never be allowed to wear in Iran. This journalist lives in the United States, is under death threats and never stops raising her voice on behalf of the oppressed women of her country. Others were not lucky enough to escape, like Mahsa/Zhina Amini, a young Kurdish woman who was kidnapped and beaten to death by the Iranian morality police for walking around Tehran with her brother without wearing the veil. The two are an extreme example of the lengths to which attempts to police women's attire can go, something they have consistently had to contend with: from the leers for showing their legs as skirts became shorter during the 20th century to discussions of what constitutes appropriate cleavage for a professional woman, women's bodies and how they choose to dress them have always been a battleground.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-weight: bold;">THE ARRIVAL OF FEMALE FASHION DESIGNERS</span></div><div><br></div><div>Cocó Chanel dressed women in clothes considered masculine. May Quant shortened skirts and allowed them to show their legs. Elsa Schiaparelli turned women's bodies into works of art with her surrealist designs. Madeleine Vionnet invented a type of cut, the bias cut, that highlighted their natural curves without the need for corsets and peekaboos. Vivianne Westwood set fashion conventions ablaze and gave them freedom tinged with punk. They all helped reclaim women's bodies not as objects of veneration and mannequins to be manipulated and dressed according to a rigid aesthetic of what men thought they should be. They all helped women to be able to express their personalities, to rebel against the shackles that constrained them and to find their way.&nbsp;&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-weight: bold;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-weight: bold;">THE 25TH OF NOVEMBER</span></div><div><br></div><div>Patria, Minerva and María Teresa Mirabal were brutally murdered on 25 November 1960 under the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo Molina. Minerva had publicly rejected the sexual advances of the dictator of the Dominican Republic, and Trujillo plotted the revenge of a man who thinks women are his property. They became the symbol of what violence against women means, and their death marks the day we choose to remember even more forcefully that there is still a long way to go to put an end to it.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Many initiatives in the fashion world want to make the problem visible and do something about it. The Blue Runway of the World Bank's WEvolve programme wanted to empower young women and men to challenge the social norms that lead to gender-based violence. The Kering group - owner of brands such as Gucci, Balenciaga and Saint Laurent - launched the #ICouldHaveBeenHer campaign with the participation of Stella McCartney, Joseph Altuzarra and Salma Hayek. In Spain, the Government Delegation against Gender Violence launched the exhibition ‘What were you wearing?’ in 2023 as an invitation to reflect on where society places the responsibility for what happened based on why eight women heard that question after experiencing an episode of sexual violence.</div><div><br></div><div>Fashion is part of the social fabric and a tool that allows us to question and fight against preconceived ideas. And it is, above all, a valid way for survivors of gender-based violence and aggression to recover and be able to live fully, in freedom and without harm.</div><div><br></div></div>

                                                                    <div><span style="font-weight: bold;">LOS DATOS</span></div><div><br></div><div>La Declaración sobre la eliminación de la violencia contra la mujer de la Asamblea General de la ONU en 1993, define a este tipo de violencia como «todo acto que tenga o pueda tener como resultado un daño o sufrimiento físico, sexual o psicológico para la mujer» e incluye las amenazas o la privación de libertad.</div><div>Las mujeres han sido, histórica y socialmente desfavorecidas, relegadas, silenciadas y convertidas en instrumentos de una sociedad patriarcal que las ha considerado inferiores a los hombres, de su propiedad o meros instrumentos reproductivos. Esto, a lo largo de los siglos implica que todos los ámbitos a las que se las ha relegado, o que les han causado interés, han sido, por ende, considerados también frívolos e insustanciales. Y así fue con el mundo de la moda, hasta que una nueva generación de mujeres (y también hombres que supieron ver más allá) la han convertido en una herramienta de empoderamiento y de expresión, que las ha ayudado a verse como lo que son: seres humanos de pleno derecho.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-weight: bold;">UNA ARMA CONTRA LA VIOLENCIA</span></div><div><br></div><div>Para poder enfrentarse a una realidad horrible, las mujeres se han apoyado en el mundo de la moda para poder expresarse y ello, a su vez, les ha dado fuerzas para vivir las vidas que querían vivir. Para muestra, un botón contemporáneo. Las mujeres del movimiento Woman Life Freedom en Irán, hace de quitarse el pañuelo que el régimen islámico autoritario que gobierna su país un símbolo de libertad, y de vestirse con vaqueros y colores brillantes una manera de rebelarse contra el régimen que las quiere encerradas en casa, sumisas y complacientes. Una de sus representantes más conocidas, Masih Alinejad, usa siempre una flor en el cabello como símbolo de su revuelta, un adorno que jamás le dejarían llevar en Irán. Esta periodista vive en Estados Unidos, está amenazada de muerte y no deja de levantar la voz en favor de las mujeres oprimidas de su país. Otras no tuvieron la suerte de escapar, como Mahsa/Zhina Amini una joven kurda a la que la policía de la moral iraní secuestró y golpeó hasta la muerte por pasearse por Teherán con su hermano sin llevar el velo. Las dos son un ejemplo extremo de hasta dónde puede llegar el intentar fiscalizar el atuendo de las mujeres,  algo a lo que se han tenido que enfrentar sistemáticamente: desde las miradas lascivas por enseñar las piernas a medida que las faldas se fueron acortando durante el siglo XX, a las discusiones de lo que constituye un escote adecuado para una profesional, el cuerpo de las mujeres y cómo escogen vestirlo, siempre ha sido un campo de batalla.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-weight: bold;">LA LLEGADA DE LAS DISEÑADORAS</span></div><div><br></div><div>Cocó Chanel vistió a las mujeres con prendas consideradas masculinas. May Quant, acortó las faldas y les permitió enseñar las piernas. Elsa Schiaparelli convirtió los cuerpos de las mujeres en obras de arte, con sus diseños surrealistas. Madeleine Vionnet inventó un tipo de corte, el bies, que resaltaba sus curvas naturales, sin necesidad de corsés y miriñaques. Vivianne Westwood hizo arder las convenciones de la moda, y les regaló la libertad teñida de punk. Todas ellas contribuyeron a reivindicar el cuerpo de las mujeres no como objeto de veneración y maniquíes a los que manipular y vestir de acuerdo con una rígida estética de lo que los hombres creían que debían ser. Todas ellas ayudaron a las mujeres a poder expresar sus personalidades, a rebelarse contra las ataduras que las constreñían y a buscar su propio camino.&nbsp;&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-weight: bold;">EL 25 DE NOVIEMBRE</span></div><div><br></div><div>Patria, Minerva y María Teresa Mirabal fueron brutalmente asesinadas el 25 de noviembre de 1960 bajo la dictadura de Rafael Trujillo Molina. Minerva había rechazado las proposiciones sexuales del dictador de República Dominicana públicamente y Trujillo pergeñó una venganza propia de un hombre que piensa que las mujeres son de su propiedad. Ellas se convirtieron en el símbolo de lo que supone la violencia contra las mujeres y su muerte marca el día que escogemos para recordar con más fuerza que queda mucho camino por andar para poder acabar con ella.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Hay muchas iniciativas en el mundo de la moda que quieren visibilizar el problema y hacer algo por contrarrestarlo. La Pasarela Azul del programa WEvolve del Banco Mundial, quiso empoderar a las mujeres y los hombres jóvenes para que desafíen las normas sociales que conducen a la violencia de género. El grupo Kering –dueño de firmas de como Gucci, Balenciaga o Saint Laurent– lanzó la campaña #ICouldHaveBeenHer, con la participación de Stella McCartney y Joseph Altuzarra o Salma Hayek. En España, la Delegación del Gobierno contra la Violencia de Género puso en marcha la exposición “¿Qué llevabas puesto?» en 2023, como invitación a reflexionar dónde sitúa la sociedad la responsabilidad de lo ocurrido a partir de por qué ocho mujeres escucharon esa pregunta después de vivir un episodio de violencia sexual.</div><div><br></div><div>La moda forma parte del entramado social, y es una herramienta que nos permite, también, cuestionar y luchar contra las ideas preconcebidas. Y es, sobre todo, una vía válida para hacer que las supervivientes de violencia de género y agresiones se recuperen y puedan vivir plenamente, en libertad y sin agresiones.</div><div><br></div></div>

Shops fill their shelves with pointy hats, black cloaks, striped stockings and occult symbols, and this air of mysticism takes over fashion. But what is it about the witch aesthetic that is so fascinating, not only on Halloween but also on the catwalks and in feminist activism? Throughout history, the witch's figure has been stigmatised and feared, yet it has also exerted a powerful magnetism. Today, they have become a symbol of female empowerment because they were women who stood up to the patriarchy.</span><div><br></div><div><br>
                                                                    <div><span style="font-weight: bold; font-size: 14px;">Persecuted</span></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 14px;">Historically, witches were not always the enigmatic heroines we adore today. For centuries, witch-hunting in Europe and America was a political and social tool to keep women under control. The Inquisition and the Salem trials, for example, sought not only to ‘eliminate’ those who practised black magic but also independent, intellectual and transgressive women (and also men and children, but to a lesser extent). Tens of thousands of executions are estimated for women who were often simply midwives, healers or people who did not fit the mould that patriarchal society had set for them.</span></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 14px;">However, like any symbol of rebellion, the witch did not disappear; she was transformed. In the 19th century, gothic literature and romanticism began to redraw witches as mysterious and attractive, though still often evil, figures. In the 20th century, Hollywood turned them into icons of particular style and power. Who hasn't heard the phrase ‘black goes with everything’? But beyond its elegance and versatility, black has a deep historical significance. Since the Middle Ages, it has been the colour of the outcasts, of those who did not want to follow the rules. Witches, who were associated with danger and the forbidden for centuries, began to be seen as a symbol of defiance. The colour black was their invisibility cloak and, simultaneously, a cry of resistance. Black cats, their companions.</span></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 14px;">Today, the legacy of that aesthetic can be seen in brands such as Alexander McQueen, who played with gothic elements, dramatic corsets and a dark, mystical atmosphere in his collections. Rick Owens, known for his apocalyptic style, takes this concept to the extreme with garments that evoke the rebirth of the modern urban witch: powerful, different, free from judgement and social norms. And who doesn't remember that iconic Kate Moss for Martine Stibons in 1993 or the ‘blue witches’ of Comme des Garçons?</span></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 14px;">Even popular fashion, from 90s chokers to leather jackets and combat boots, has adopted elements of this ‘witch aesthetic’, emphasising individuality and rejecting traditional conventions.</span></div><div><br></div></div><div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-weight: bold;">Halloween and pop empowerment</span></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 14px;">When Halloween comes around, many women choose to dress up as witches. However, beyond the cliché of the ‘sexy witch’, there is an interesting fact there. The simple fact of choosing this costume, even without realising it, is connected to a story of resistance and vindication. In a world where the female body is still regulated and controlled, the witch embodies the woman who chooses for herself, who is not afraid to be strong, independent and even dangerous or ‘ugly’. She is a symbol that female power can be both intimidating and attractive.</span></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 14px;">Moreover, pop culture has perpetuated this image. From the characters of American Horror Story: Coven or The Love Witch to the aesthetics of Lana Del Rey or Billie Eilish, the modern witch takes control of her narrative, whether in a flowing dress or a black leather jacket.</span></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-weight: bold;">The legacy of the witch in modern fashion</span></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 14px;">Why this fascination with witchcraft and fashion? The witch represents subversive power, the transgression of norms, and the refusal to be pigeonholed. In a world where women still fight for rights, the witch aesthetic has become a form of visual resistance. Witches: Independence, Activism and Fashion Under the Moonlight

                                                            <div>&nbsp;</div><div>It is pretty striking that ethnicity is a trend that comes and goes over the years; from Oriental to African elements to objects from Native American or South American traditions, the catwalks are peppered year in and year out with references and, on many occasions, ill-formulated mixtures of elements from other cultures. Moreover, not only the top fashion houses suffer from this intermittent ‘exotic’ fever. Music artists, influencers and the world of cinema also display a wide range of striking behaviours in this respect: modifying their appearance to look like a black person, for example, darkening their skin or white actors and actresses playing characters of other races (see the case of Scarlett Johanson in Ghost in the Shell, Emma Stone in Aloha or Tilda Swinton in Doctor Strange) are some unfortunate examples.</div><div><br></div><div>Cultural appropriation was one of those issues that emerged in the early 2010s. The World Intellectual Property Organisation defined it as ‘the act by which a member of a relatively dominant culture makes use of a traditional cultural expression and reuses it in a different context, without authorisation, mention of its origin or compensation for its use, thereby causing harm to the possessor(s) of the traditional cultural expression’. In other words, using an element of an ethnic group or tribe in a situation of greater oppression than your own for a purely aesthetic purpose, stripping it of all meaning. An example would be the dreadlocked or braided hairstyles of racialised people as part of their claim against the oppressive white, straight-haired beauty. Depending on who you ask, cultural appropriation can be simple ignorance, thoughtlessness or a way to continue perpetuating a white, Eurocentric and, in most cases, a hetero-patriarchal system of power. Some people find it silly, a woke concept that does nothing more than limit creativity. The truth is that, in most cases, it is best to be guided by a simple principle: if offending someone is a possibility, why do it? In any case, it requires us to reflect, listen to the people we might hurt, and review our behaviour.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Fortunately, fashion houses (and other industries) are increasingly aware of their responsibility or, at least, of the severe harm such a serious blunder can cause them. They are no longer worth the trouble to do things just for show. The key to eradicating cultural appropriation is, as mentioned above, collaboration. Engaging with the tribes or ethnicities that are, in effect, the original creators of the idea that can be so fascinating is the first step towards building a much more inclusive and respectful fashion paradigm.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div>

Además, no solo las mejores casas de moda sufren esta intermitente fiebre "exótica". Artistas de la música, influencers y el mundo del cine también muestran un amplio catálogo de conductas llamativas al respecto: modificar su aspecto para parecer una persona negra, por ejemplo, oscurecerse la piel o que, directamente, actores y actrices blancos interpreten a personajes de otras razas (véase el caso de Scarlett Johanson en Ghost in the Shell, Emma Stone en Aloha o Tilda Swinton en Doctor Strange) son algunos desafortunados ejemplos.</div><div><br></div><div>La “apropiación cultural” fue uno de esos temas que surgieron a principios de la década de 2010.  La Organización Mundial de Propiedad Intelectual la definía como "el acto por el que un miembro de una cultura relativamente dominante hace uso de una expresión cultural tradicional y la reutiliza en un contexto diferente, sin contar con autorización, hacer mención de su origen ni proporcionar compensación por su utilización, lo cual causa un daño al poseedor o poseedores de la expresión cultural tradicional." Es decir, utilizar un elemento de una etnia o tribu en situación de más opresión que la tuya con un fin puramente estético, despojándolo de todo significado. Un ejemplo serían los peinados con rastas o trenzas de personas racializadas, algo propio de su reivindicación ante la opresiva belleza blanca de pelo liso. Según a quien le preguntes, la apropiación cultural puede ser simple ignorancia, desconsideración o una manera seguir perpetuando un sistema de poder blanco, eurocentrista y, en casi todas las ocasiones, heteropatriarcal. También hay gente a la que le parece una tontería, un concepto woke que no hace más que limitar la creatividad. Lo cierto es que, en la mayoría de los casos, lo mejor es guiarse por un simple principio: si es posible ofender, ¿por qué lo vas a hacer? En cualquier caso, requiere que hagamos una reflexión, escuchemos a las personas a las que podemos herir y revisemos nuestro comportamiento.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Afortunadamente, parece que las casas de moda (y también otras industrias) son cada vez más conscientes de su responsabilidad o, por lo menos, del grave perjuicio público que les puede ocasionar una metedura de pata tan grave, y ya no les merece la pena según que cosas que tienen el único fin de epatar. La clave para erradicar la apropiación cultural es, como hemos mencionado antes,  la colaboración. Contar con las tribus o etnias que, efectivamente, son las creadoras originales de la idea que tanto puede llegar a fascinar es el primer paso para poder construir un paradigma en la moda mucho más inclusivo y respetuoso.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div>

This Pride, as in all that came before, we want to be allowed to be and to live in peace.</div><div><br></div><div>We’d like to share the hope of a future where the LGTBIQ+ community can live without fear and have the same rights and opportunities as any other person. Fighting for them is not only a matter of social justice but also of humanity. We must support and be allies in building a fairer society for all. The far-right wants us to hide, so let it be known that we’re LGTBIQ+ because we are proud of it. We’re here, and we’re not second-class citizens… and if it’s war they want, that’s what they’ll get.</div>

                                <span style="font-size: 24px;">What is a beauty standard and aesthetic activism, and can we free ourselves from this pressure that makes us unhappy?</span>
                                                            </span><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 20px;">The concept of beauty has changed over the millennia. From the Venus of Willendorf - an image of a woman whose attributes made her body a perfect receptacle for future babies - to the more stylised Venus of Milo, to Michelangelo's David, an example of the "perfect" proportions for a male body, these representations were the formula that determined what was beautiful and what was not. An aspirational dogma that left out the majority of people, mere humans, and an imposition that continues to cause a not inconsiderable number of mental illnesses, eating disorders and surgical madness.</span></div><div><br></div><div>The non-existent eyebrows of the Renaissance, the rotund but strictly proportional figures of the Baroque, the absolute pallor, the hourglass figure achieved by Victorian corsets, the junkie thinness of the 90s, the exaggerated false eyelashes we see today... The canon only changes because its essential nature is precisely unattainable. What stays the same, however, is how aspiring to a normative beauty is not only draining our pockets but also our self-esteem.</div><div><br></div><div>Fortunately - and thanks to social movements that have taken action - the canon as we knew it is disappearing. If beauty dwells in the eye of the beholder, everyone is now looking around them instead of upwards, where white, blonde, slim, small-nosed, big-breasted divinities used to dwell. And as we have descended to street level, we have discovered that beauty is everywhere.</div><div><br></div><div>People of all skin tones, sizes and backgrounds have taken the place that should never have been taken from them in the pages of fashion magazines, catwalks and advertising. While this may at first appear to be an exercise in political correctness, the avalanche effect of seeing this variety of faces and bodies in the media means that we collectively normalise the existence of not just one type of beauty but a wide range of characteristics that can be. Not only that, but representation, this influx of different faces, makes everyone feel validated, helps to reduce self-esteem problems and prejudices, and consolidates a more plural, inclusive, and less strict society.</div><div><br></div><div>The fact that the canon of Western beauty has been blown to bits has not come out of nowhere. The positive side of social media is that it has allowed many people to show themselves as they are, giving rise to body-positive movements exemplified by personalities such as Winnie Harlow, Serena Williams, Jonathan Van Ness or our own Itziar Castro, who have spoken of their efforts to overcome the complexes and dogmas of normativity and their journey towards self-acceptance and the joy of discovering their beauty. Anyone with social networks has been able to observe the abuse and insults that the recently deceased Castro faced every day, always responding with humour and compassion. Her example and commitment are an inspiration to us all.</div><div><br></div><div>This aesthetic activism has not always been accepted, as the black model, agent and activist Bethann Hardison tells us in her documentary Invisible Beauty, in which she traces her career as a model since the 1970s in New York and her struggle for recognition of the value of racialised people in an industry as racist, classist and non-inclusive as the fashion industry has been until just over a decade ago. Desirée Bela-Lobedde says in her book Ser mujer negra en España: "We live in a society that sets Western beauty standards according to which the lighter the skin and the straighter the hair, the more accepted we are. This translates into pressure and violence that we exert on our bodies as a matter of assimilation. Aesthetic activism also implies decolonising the body, not just the mind".</div><div><br></div><div>Thanks to the network of professionals who have driven change in the industry, some celebrities and the public's need for the heterogeneous reality of today's societies to be reflected in the media, we are slowly entering the most diverse era in history. And that is excellent news. However, we must keep our guard up: cosmetic operations are still a booming business, growing older is still seen as a problem and beauty is still dictated by celebrities with too much time and money. We are forced to be constantly vigilant in the face of an endless bombardment of images of absurd "perfection". And we must learn to recognise and love ourselves as we are.</div><div><br></div>

                                                            <div><span style="font-size: 20px;">El concepto de belleza ha ido cambiando a lo largo de los milenios. Desde la Venus de Willendorf –imagen de una mujer cuyos atributos convertían su cuerpo en un receptáculo perfecto para futuros bebés–, hasta la de Milo, ya más estilizada, al David de Miguel Ángel, ejemplo de las proporciones “perfectas” para un cuerpo masculino, estas representaciones eran la fórmula que determinaba qué era bello y qué no. Un dogma aspiracional que dejaba fuera a la mayoría de personas, simples humanos, y una imposición que sigue provocando un número nada despreciable de enfermedades mentales, trastornos alimenticios y locuras quirúrgicas.</span></div><div><br></div><div>La cejas inexistentes del Renacimiento, las figuras rotundas pero estrictamente proporcionales del Barroco, la palidez absoluta, la figura del reloj de arena que conseguían los corsés victorianos, la delgadez yonqui de los 90, las pestañas postizas exageradísimas que vemos hoy en día… parece que el canon no hace más que cambiar, porque su naturaleza esencial es ser, precisamente, inalcanzable. Lo que no cambia, sin embargo, es como aspirar a una belleza normativa no deja de vaciarnos los bolsillos y la autoestima.</div><div><br></div><div>Afortunadamente –y gracias a movimientos sociales que han puesto el grito en el cielo y manos a la obra–, el canon tal y como lo conocíamos hasta ahora está desapareciendo. Si la belleza habita en los ojos de quien mira, ahora todo el mundo está mirando a su alrededor en lugar de hacia arriba, donde las divinidades blancas, rubias, delgadas, de narices pequeñas y enormes pechos habitaban. Y al descender a nivel de calle, hemos descubierto que la belleza está en todos lados.</div><div><br></div><div>Personas de todos los tonos de piel, tallas y procedencias han tomado el lugar que nunca se les debería haber arrebatado en las páginas de las revistas de moda, las pasarelas y la publicidad. Aunque esto en principio pudiera parecer un ejercicio de corrección política sin más, el efecto avalancha que supone ver esta variedad de rostros y cuerpos en los medios, hace que normalicemos colectivamente la existencia de no solo un tipo de belleza, sino de un amplio abanico de características que pueden serlo. Y no solo eso: la representación, esa afluencia de caras distintas, hace que todo el mundo se sienta validado, ayuda a reducir los problemas de autoestima, los prejuicios y a consolidar una sociedad más plural, más inclusiva, menos estricta.</div><div><br></div><div>Que el canon único de belleza occidental haya saltado por los aires no ha salido de la nada. La parte positiva de las redes sociales es que ha permitido a muchas personas mostrarse tal y como son, dando lugar a movimientos body positive ejemplificado por personalidades como Winnie Harlow, Serena Williams, Jonathan Van Ness o nuestra Itziar Castro que han hablado de su esfuerzo por superar los complejos y los dogmas de la normatividad y de su camino hacia la auto aceptación y la alegría de descubrir su propia belleza. Cualquiera que tenga redes sociales ha podido observar el abuso y los insultos a los que la recientemente fallecida Castro se enfrentaba todos los días, respondiendo siempre con humor y compasión. El activismo estético implica descolonizar también el cuerpo, no solo la mente.”</div><div><br></div><div>Gracias al entramado de profesionales que han impulsado el cambio en la industria, a algunas celebridades y a la necesidad del público de que la realidad heterogénea de las sociedades de hoy en día se refleje en los medios, estamos entrando poco a poco en la era más diversa de la historia. Y eso es una excelente noticia. Sin embargo, no podemos bajar la guardia: las operaciones estéticas siguen siendo un negocio floreciente, hacerse mayor se continúa viendo como un problema y la belleza sigue siendo dictadas por famosas con demasiado tiempo y dinero entre manos. Estamos forzadas a una vigilancia constante ante un bombardeo sin fin de imágenes de “perfección” absurda. We've replaced the fairy-tale story of a talent scout seeing someone on the street (or at a concert, or going to a casting with a friend, or...) approaching them and offering them the chance to become a model with the fairy-tale story of a talent scout sneaking into someone’s DMs and offering to meet them. Instagram is a goldmine for attractive faces, talent, expressiveness and people with something to say. If you're interested in being a part of this scene, you must control your exposure and showcase what makes you different. We are looking for people with more to offer than a standard, pretty, white, blue-eyed face. We want to show the world that true beauty lies in diversity. If you've made it this far, you're on the right track because we could be a good match, but we can't help but give you some tips on how to use your social media responsibly and protect yourself:</div><div><br></div><div>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;1. Be a street smart. If you get an offer for an interview, google the name of the professional and their agency like there's no tomorrow. Have someone you trust go to the first meeting with you.</div><div>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;2. Don't send nudes. A professional will never ask you to do that.</div><div>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;3. Don't give out any private information that isn't essential right off the bat. Your email or phone number is more than enough.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 20px;">I'm an influencer</span></div><div><br></div><div>If you have many followers and brands are already knocking on your door, congratulations: you are an influencer. Brands have been able to spot very early on how people who move crowds and generate high engagement can help them and have been quick to capitalise on it. Unfortunately, as much as we are excited to participate in dinners and events or to be given products we love, we must consider other things. For example, there is also a pay gap among influencers. Check Influencer Pay Gap, an account where stories are shared anonymously. In addition to racial bias, it has brought to light the pay gap for disabled and LGBTQ+ influencers. Be aware of these situations before you sign contracts, and always seek legal advice!</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 20px;">Be good. Do good.</span>
</div><div><br></div><div>You've surely seen how Tom Holland or Selena Gomez have either entirely or intermittently stepped away from social media to protect their mental health. We understand this is a lot easier to do when you have a well-established career and don’t have to make a name for yourself, but remember: nothing is more important than your health. Holland and Gomez are an example of social media's positive influence. By showing their vulnerability, they have made it easier for many more people to recognise the symptoms of a possible mental health problem. Like them, many other influencers and celebrities are taking up causes to highlight racial, sexual, gender or disability discrimination. If you want to do good, choose the cause you care about the most (animal advocacy, ecology, the body-positive movement...), be well-informed, and make sure you can easily explain why that particular issue is so important to you. Remember that sometimes the best way to advocate for a cause is to listen carefully to others before you speak out –lest you start singing Imagine in the middle of a pandemic.</div><div><br></div><div>

En el mundo de la moda, la belleza y el lifestyle son, además, absolutamente imprescindibles, pero su uso tiene tantas ventajas como peligros y hacer que te conviertas en víctima de cyberbullying o reina del cringe de la noche a la mañana.</span></div><div><br></div><div>Nos divierten, nos sirven para exponer nuestro trabajo, para ver qué hace nuestro crush, reírnos, enternecerse, aprender y para seguir las últimas tendencias. Todas estamos pendientes de las redes sociales, pero, ¿cómo podemos hacer un uso responsable de ellas?</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 20px;">Who's that girl?</span></div><div><br></div><div>Las cosas han cambiado. Hemos sustituido la típica historia aquella en que un cazatalentos veía alguien por la calle (o en un concierto, o acompañando a un casting a su amiga, o…) se acercaba y le ofrecía la posibilidad de convertirse en modelo, por la típica historia en que un cazatalentos se cuela en tus DM y de repente te hace una oferta para que vayas a conocerlo. Instagram es una mina para encontrar caras interesantes, actitud, expresividad y gente que brilla por sí sola. Si lo que te interesa es formar parte de este mundillo, tienes que tener una exposición previa que te muestre tal y como eres, y cuanto más te diferencies de los demás mejor. Nosotras buscamos gente con algo más que ofrecer que una cara normativamente bonita, blanca y de ojos azules. Queremos mostrar al mundo que en la diferencia se encuentra la verdadera belleza. Si has llegado hasta aquí, vas por el buen camino, porque podríamos ser un buen match, pero no podemos dejar de darte algunos consejos para que hagas un uso responsable de tus redes sociales y para que puedas protegerte:</div><div><br></div><div>&nbsp; &nbsp; 1. Sé un poco astuta. Si te hacen una oferta para un book o para una entrevista, quédate con el nombre del profesional y de la agencia y googleala como si no hubiera un mañana. Y si puedes, acude siempre acompañada al primer encuentro.</div><div>&nbsp; &nbsp; 2. No mandes nudes. Eso no te lo va a pedir nunca un profesional.</div><div>&nbsp; &nbsp; 3. No des ningún dato privado que no sea imprescindible de buenas a primeras. El email o número de teléfono y poco más.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 20px;">Soy influencer</span></div><div><br></div><div>Si tienes un montón de seguidores y ya hay marcas que están llamando a tu puerta para que las promociones, felicidades: eres influencer. Las marcas han sabido detectar muy pronto cómo les puede ayudar que gente que mueve multitudes en redes y que genera un engagement alto con sus seguidores, y han sido rápidas en rentabilizarlo. Desgraciadamente, por mucha ilusión que nos haga participar en cenas y eventos, o que nos regalen productos que nos encantan, hay que tener en cuenta otras cosas. Por ejemplo: que también existe una brecha salarial entre los influencers. Lo puedes ver muy bien en Influencer Pay Gap. La cuenta ofrece una plataforma en que se comparten anónimamente historias sobre experiencias de colaboración con las marcas. Además de las disparidades raciales, también ha sacado a la luz las diferencias salariales que sufren los influencers con discapacidades y LGBTQ+. ¡Estáte atenta a estas situaciones antes de firmar contratos sin que nadie te asesore!</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 20px;">Be good. Do good.</span></div><div><br></div><div>Seguro que has visto como el actor Tom Holland o la artista Selena Rodríguez se han alejado de las RRSS para poner por delante su salud mental. Imaginamos que esto es mucho más fácil de hacer cuando tienes la carrera profesional que tienen ellos que cuando acabas de llegar y estás intentando hacerte un hueco, lo entendemos, pero recuerda: nada es más importante que tu salud. Ellos son ejemplo de la influencia positiva que también pueden tener las redes. Mostrar su vulnerabilidad ha hecho que mucha más gente sea capaz de reconocer los síntomas de un posible problema de salud mental más fácilmente. Como ellos muchos otros influencers y famosos hacen suyas ciertas causas para visibilizar la discriminación racial, sexual, de género o capacitista. Tú puedes escoger tu causa (la defensa de los animales, la ecología, el body positive movement…) pero aunque seguro que todo parte de un buen lugar en tu corazón, elige la que más te preocupe, infórmate bien, y asegúrate de que podrías explicar con facilidad por qué te importa tanto ese problema en concreto. Ten en cuenta que a veces, la mejor manera de defender una causa es escuchar con atención a los demás antes de ponerte a hablar. No sea que te pongas a cantar Imagine en medio de una pandemia…</div>

                                </p><p>June is the month of LGTBIQA+ Pride, a date that reminds us of all that some brave people have done and all that is yet to be done.</p><div><br></div><div>The fashion industry, as well as the art, photography, theatre, literature, music, dance and film industries, among others, have been fields where the most significant expression and greatness have come from queer people who, throughout history, enjoyed admiration but not respect for their sexuality. What would House music be without the LGTBIQA+ movement? What would even heavy metal be without Judas Priest, whose frontman came out of the wardrobe much later than desired due to the social pressure of the genre? What would literature be without all those writers with female "great friends" to whom they were ardently devoted? What would poetry and playwriting be without Lorca? June is a month of celebration and visibility, but we cannot forget that it is a month of struggle and fighting. The first act of protest against cis-hetero hegemony was a brickbat in Stonewall against authority; let's never forget that. As Galicia-born trans model Ruby Carrillo says, this is not about acceptance and tolerance. It's about respect and human rights: "I think a lot about Dominique Jackson's speech at the Annual HRC National Dinner in 2019. At one point, he said, "You do not have the power to accept or tolerate me; I take that from you. You will respect me".</div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-weight: bold;">The uncertain future</span></div><div>There are still 64 UN member countries that criminalise same-gender sex. In 6 other countries, it is punishable by death. Spain is in the fourth place of European countries where LGTBIQA+ rights are most respected (this ranking being just an aberration). However, many people still suffer discrimination, bad looks and even beatings in the underground, as happened not long ago in Barcelona when an individual kicked a trans woman several times in front of the almost passive gaze of the passengers. "The rise of transphobia and homophobia around the world is extremely worrying. The laws in Uganda and Russia and the collapse of protections in the United States are disturbing and scary," says Tasha Tilberg, queer model. Some states have banned drag as a danger to children in the US. The future in which we were all going to "come out better" and live in tolerance looks worse than expected.</div><hr><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-weight: bold;">The queer voice in the fashion industry</span></div><div>"I think it is important that industries with such a large audience as the fashion industry employ gay, lesbian, bisexual, intersex and queer people for the talents we have and for what we can contribute (like any other heteronormative person) without making us conform to stereotypes that insult the collective or use us as a method to wash their face", says Luana, a model. "I also think it is necessary that young people, young children who live in closed-minded environments and children who do not know that there is freedom of expression with their identity or gender, can see LGTBIQ+ icons in networks, films, magazines or catwalks in which they can identify". Visibilisation and normalisation have been a big part of the movement's struggle since the late 1960s when ostracism, prejudice and a sometimes chosen, sometimes imposed underground environment created a specific narrative of the collective. As this storytelling was controlled by those in religious, institutional and moral power, a very negative image (of "social dangerousness" or "bums and thugs") was painted of the community. That is why it is essential to create references: "It is necessary so that children, instead of insults or bad faces, look up to people they admire", explains Luana.&nbsp;</div><p></p><div><br></div><div>There is no single experience of the LGTBIQ+ experience, there are many, and it is undeniable that intersectionality also crosses the community, with racialised and poor people suffering the most discrimination. Rubi Carrillo says that "there is a lack of education; I have been misgendered at work several times, and they have tried to pretend it was nothing, without any kind of apology afterwards"; that is, they have made a mistake with their gender and have not given importance to the fact when it is something serious. "I know models treated as "it" in backstage shows". In a presumably advanced and avant-garde environment such as fashion, these attitudes make one question the actual scaffolding of values that reigns behind the brands. This is exactly what model Taira argues: "We need to reflect 'diversity and inclusion' not only in casting roles but also (more importantly) in who runs the industry”. Who tells the stories, how they tell them, from what perspective and in what context, where the power lies and where it is channelled to are crucial questions to be addressed; those battles that remain to be won in a world that increasingly seems to be veering towards cis-heteronormative patriarchy in its commanding positions.</div><p></p><div><br></div><hr><div><br></div><div><span style="font-weight: bold;">Simply "BEING”</span></div><div>This is how Luana will celebrate this Pride: simply by being. "I'm going to celebrate it by loving the woman I love, holding her hand in the street, kissing her among a thousand people and making our love public on social media like normative couples have done all their lives. I will celebrate by simply "being" proud of it, for me and for those who, unfortunately, could never be. For those who unfortunately still can't." Taira will not celebrate doing anything special either, but with a conscience: "I live as I always do. Although I have to admit that Pride Month has become another opportunity for capitalism/slacktivism, I hope that its welcoming atmosphere will be a great opportunity for anyone who feels excluded in society to recognise that there is community."                                 <p>Junio es el mes del Orgullo LGTBIQ+, una fecha que nos recuerda todo lo que algunas personas valientes han hecho y todo lo que está por hacer</p><div><br></div><div>La industria de la moda, así como las industrias del arte, de la fotografía, del teatro, la literatura, la música, la danza y el cine, entre otras, han sido campos donde su máxima expresión y grandeza ha llegado de manos de personas queer que, durante la Historia, gozaban de admiración pero no respeto por su sexualidad. ¿Qué sería de la música House sin el movimiento LGTBIQ+? ¿Qué sería, incluso, del heavy metal sin Judas Priest, cuyo frontman salió del armario mucho más tarde de lo deseado debido a la presión social del género?¿Qué sería de la literatura sin todas esas escritoras que tenían “grandes amistades” femeninas a las que profesaban ardiente devoción? ¿Qué sería de la poesía y la dramaturgia sin Lorca? Junio es un mes de celebración y visibilización, sí, pero no podemos olvidar que es un mes de lucha y reivindicación; porque el primer acto contestatario ante la hegemonía cis-hetero fue un ladrillazo en Stonewall contra la autoridad, jamás lo olvidemos. Como cuenta Ruby Carrillo, modelo trans gallega, esto no va sobre aceptación y tolerancia, va sobre respeto y derechos humanos: “Pienso mucho en el discurso de Dominique Jackson en la Annual HRC National Dinner de 2019. En un momento dijo “you do not have the power to accept me or tolerate me, I take that from you. You will respect me”.</div><p></p><div><br></div><hr><div><img src="https://mediaslide-europe.storage.googleapis.com/uno/news_pictures/2023/06/large-1687858362-35e02f7e8668e66953122d871cf3e0ce.jpg"><br></div><hr><div><br></div><div>El futuro incierto</div><div>Aún hay 64 países miembros de la ONU que criminalizan el sexo entre personas del mismo género. En otros 6 países se pena con la muerte. España se encuentra en el cuarto puesto de países europeos donde más se respetan los derechos LGTBIQ+ (siendo este ranking ya solo una aberración), pero hay muchas personas que aún sufren discriminación, malas miradas e incluso palizas en el metro, como pasó no hace mucho en Barcelona, cuando un individuo pegó varias patadas, ante la mirada casi-pasiva de los viajeros, a una mujer trans. “El aumento de la transfobia y la homofobia en todo el mundo es extremadamente preocupante. Las leyes en Uganda, Rusia y el colapso de las protecciones en Estados Unidos, son muy inquietantes y dan mucho miedo” cuenta Tasha Tilberg, modelo de la comunidad. Y es que en Estados Unidos hay ciertos estados donde han prohibido el drag por suponer un peligro para la infancia. El futuro en el que todos íbamos a “salir mejores” y vivir en tolerancia pinta peor de lo que se esperaba.</div><p></p><div><br></div><div>La voz queer en la industria de la moda</div><div>“Creo que es importante que industrias con un público tan grande como la de la moda empleen a gays, lesbianas, bisexuales, intersexuales y queers por los talentos que tenemos y por lo que podemos aportar (como a cualquier otra persona heteronormativa) sin hacernos cumplir estereotipos insultantes para el colectivo ni usarnos como método para lavar su cara”, cuenta Luana, modelo. “También creo necesario que gente joven, niñxs pequeñxs que viven en entornos de mentalidad cerrada y niñxs que no saben que existe una libertad de expresión con su identidad o su sexo, puedan ver en redes, películas, revistas o pasarelas iconos LGTBIQ+ en los que sentir identificación”. La visibilización y normalización ha sido gran parte de la lucha del movimiento desde finales de los años 60, cuando el ostracismo, los prejuicios y el underground a veces elegido y a veces impuesto creaban una narrativa concreta del colectivo. Como esa narrativa la controlaban aquellas personas que estaban en el poder tanto religioso como institucional y moral, se pintaba una imagen muy negativa (de “peligrosidad social” o “vagos y maleantes”) del colectivo. Por eso, crear referentes es importante: “Es necesario para que esxs niñxs, en vez de a insultos o malas caras, se aferren a personas que admiran”, explica Luana.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>No hay una experiencia única de una vivencia LGTBIQ+, hay muchísimas, y es innegable que la interseccionalidad también atraviesa la comunidad, siendo las personas racializadas y pobres las que más discriminación sufren. Rubi Carrillo cuenta que “falta mucha educación; a mí misma me han hecho misgender en el trabajo varias veces y han intentado hacer como si nada, sin ningún tipo de disculpa a continuación”, es decir, se han equivocado con su género y no le han dado importancia al hecho, cuando es algo grave. “Sé de modelos a las que han tratado de “it” (eso) en backstages de shows”. En un entorno a priori avanzado y de vanguardia como la moda, estas actitudes hacen cuestionar el verdadero andamiaje de valores que impera detrás de las firmas. Justo esto argumenta la modelo Taira: “hay que reflejar la ‘diversidad y la inclusión’ no sólo en el reparto de papeles, sino también (lo que es más importante) en quién dirige la industria”. Quién cuenta las historias, cómo las cuenta, desde qué perspectiva y en qué contexto, dónde está el poder y hacia dónde lo vehicula son cuestiones cruciales a tratar; aquellas batallas que aún quedan por ganar en el mundo que, cada vez más, parece virar hacia el patriarcado cis-heteronormativo en sus puestos de mando.</div><div>Simplemente, “SER”</div><div><br></div><div>Así es como celebrará Luana este Pride: simplemente, siendo. “Voy a celebrarlo amando a la mujer que amo, dándole la mano por la calle, besándola entre mil personas y haciendo público nuestro amor en redes como las parejas normativas han hecho toda la vida. Voy a celebrarlo simplemente “siendo”, orgullosa de ello, por mí y por aquellas que, por desgracia, nunca pudieron ser. Por aquellos que por desgracia aún no pueden.” Taira tampoco lo celebrará de manera especial, pero sí lo hará con conciencia: “Personalmente, no tengo previsto hacer nada especial. Vivo como siempre.                                 Size doesn't matter, they told us, as they showed women with girl bodies and men sculpted by hours in the gym. They told us that it doesn't matter if you are a man or a woman, while the management, command, and decision-making positions over their bodies and ours were taken over by them. While the invisible them had neither space nor security in society. They said it doesn't matter where you come from, but they used racialised people to fill quotas as if they were cute removable pieces to utilise at will. Things are better than they used to be, they tried to convince us so that everything would continue the same. Beauty is on the inside. And it wasn't.</p><p><br></p><p></p><hr><p></p><div>We are going to do things differently now. At UNO, we are going to be consistent; we are changing to improve, evolving to include, and we will put those bodies that were previously left aside in front of the camera.                                 <div>La talla no importa, nos decían mientras nos mostraban mujeres con cuerpos de niñas y hombres esculpidos por horas de gimnasio. No importa si eres hombre o mujer, nos contaban mientras los puestos dirección, de mando, de decisión sobre sus cuerpos y los nuestros estaban copados por ellos. Mientras les elles invisibles no tenían ni espacio, ni seguridad en la sociedad. Da igual de dónde vengas, pero utilizaban a las personas racializadas para llenar cupos, como si fueran simpáticas piezas de quita y pon para usar a su antojo. Estamos mucho mejor que antes, nos convencían para que todo siguiera como siempre. La belleza está en el interior. Y no lo estaba.</div><hr><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Vamos a hacer las cosas de forma distinta ahora. En UNO vamos a ser consecuentes; vamos a cambiar para mejorar, evolucionar para incluir, vamos a poner delante de la cámara aquellos cuerpos que antes dejábamos de lado.
